- 1Volatile MemoryVolatile memory requires a power supply to hold the information within it and as soon as power is lost, all the information held is as well. Usually, this is Cache and RAM.
- 2Non-Volatile MemoryNon-Volatile memory holds the information stored on it even when power to the computer is lost entirely. Usually, this is ROM, flash memory (SSD) , magnetic and optical hard disks.
- 3RAM (Random Access Memory)RAM is another type of volatile memory that is much faster than the standard memory used such as a hard-drive. Some graphics cards use VRAM which can read and write at the same time as it is essentially two stick of RAM connected together, to make VRAM.
- 4CPUCentral Processing Unit. Internal device referred to as the "computer's brain". It is used to make calculations at very high speeds ( referred to as clock speeds ) . At the heart of the CPU is the processor, which can vary in amount of cores.
- 5MotherboardThe Motherboard links all the hardware in the computer together and the computer would be totally ineffective without it. It is also responsible for holding all the computers setting, BIOS, and the date and time stored on the computer on the internal clock.
- 6Graphics CardsUsed for graphics, 2D and 3D. can either be a separate circuit that slots into a computer so it can be upgraded or it could also be a built in part of the motherboard, in devices that are smaller such as mobiles and laptops.
- 7CacheVery fast and small memory used to perform tasks very quickly, however it is very expensive and it thus limited much more than standard memory.
- 8ROM (Read-Only Memory)This is Non-Volatile memory that doesn't lose its information when power to the computer system is lost. ROM Chips have data pre-installed on them during the manufacturing process, the Bios of the system which is
