Flashcards do conjunto (16)

  1. 1Cell types varyfibroblasts, macrophages, adipocytes, red and white blood cells, chondrocytes.
  2. 2Extra cellular matrixGround substance and protein fibres
  3. 3Protein fibrescollagen - non-elastic, strong, flexible
    elastic - rubbery, elastin, fibrillin
Reticular - thin and branched collagen with other proteins
  4. 41. EmbryonicMesenchyme – forms all other kinds of connective tissue
  5. 52. Mature loose areolar- semifluid ground substance
    - all 3 fibres types loosely dispersed
    - fibroblasts predominate they secrete fibres and ground substance of CT
  6. 63. Mature loose adipose- Adapted to store triglycerides (fat)
    - adipocytes predominate
    - acts as shock absorber and insulator in subcutaneous tissue
  7. 74. Mature loose reticular- interwoven reticular fibres associate with reticular cells
    - forms the stroma (supporting framework) in reticular organs (lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow)
  8. 85. Dense regular- closely packed parallel collagen fibres
    - found in areas where tension is exerted in a single direction along axis of fibres
    E.g. tendons and ligaments
  9. 96. Dense irregularthick and irregular collagen fibres
found where tension is exerted in many different planes
    E.g. dermis of skin
  10. 107. Elasticdcombines strength with elasticity
    recoils easily
    E.g. artery walls
  11. 118. Hyaline cartilage- most widely distributed
    - firm support with flexibility
    - forms articular cartilage at ends of long bones
    - embryonic skeleton
Weakest of 3 kinds of cartilage.
  12. 129. Elastic cartilage- has many more elastin fibres than hyaline cartilage
    - found where strength and flexibility are needed
    E.g. external ear
  13. 1310. Fibrocartilage- Parallel collagen fibres - chondrocytes ‘squeezed’ in between
    - Strong and rigid.
    - Strongest of 3 kinds of cartilage
    - Found where strong support is needed e.g. intervertebral discs.
  14. 1411. Bone- Numerous collagen fibres with matrix of inorganic calcium salts
    - Supports and protects soft tissues
    - Fat storage and synthesis of blood cells
  15. 1512. Blood- Atypical CT (a liquid connective tissue)
    - Red and white blood cells surrounded by fluid plasma matrix
‘fibres’ are soluble proteins – become apparent on clotting
  16. 1613. Lymph- Extracellular fluid
    - Travels in lymphatic vessels
    - Important in immune response
