- 2What is Digestion?It is the process of breaking down food into a use able form and making it's nutrients available.
- 3Where does Digestion take place?It takes place in the digestive system.
- 4What is the Digestive Tract?It is the pathway that the food takes through a series of organs. It stars at the mouth and finishes at the anus.
- 5What are the two types of digestion?They are Mechanical and Chemical digestion.
- 6What are the differences between the two different types of digestion?
- 7What is food rolled into a ball by the tongue?It is called 'Bolus'
- 8What is an Oesophagus?It is a long muscular tube that starts at your mouth and ends at your stomach
- 9What is the job of the Oesophagus?It's muscles push the ball of food down the tube by contracting behind the ball.
- 10What is this process called?It is called Peristalsis
- 11What is the Epiglottis?
- 12What are Sphincters?
- 13What is Gastric Juice?A mixture of chemicals produced by cells in the stomach wall.
- 14What does Gastric Juice contain?It contains Hydrochloric and Mucus.
- 15What are digestive juices?
- 16What is the small intestine?It is the longest part of your digestive tract. It is up to 6 meters long.
- 17What is the Duodenum?It is the first part of the small intestine.
- 18What is the pancreas?It is not part of the digestive tract but it is an organ connected to it
- 19What is the liver?It is the body's largest internal organ and you cannot survive without it.
- 20What is Bile?Bile is a greenish liquid responsible for mechanical digestion of fats.
- 21What is the Ileum?It is the lower part of the small intestine is known as the Ileum?
- 22Describe the large intestine?It is 1.5 meters long and 6 to 7 cm in diameter, making it shorter but wider than the small intestine.
- 23What is the anus?It is a sphincter muscle at the end of the digestive tract.
