Flashcards do conjunto (14)

  1. 1Simplex transmissionThis means that it is a one way signal, the signals go one direction at a time. A example of this is a TV remote and TV
  2. 2Full duplex transmissionThis means that it is a two way signal, the signals go in both directions at the same time. an example of this is a mobile phone call
  3. 3Half duplex transmissionthis means that it takes turns in the signal, the signals go in both directions but not simultaneous. an example of this is walkie talkies
  4. 4Serial and parallel transmissionSerial is where bits of data are transferred one at a time over a wire. parallel transmission is where bits of data are transferred simultaneously - a whole byte can be transferred at the same time
  5. 5Benefits and limitations of the aboveSerial benefits are that it is good over long distances, the limitations are that it is complex because data has to be broken into individual bits. parallel benefits are that it's faster because more bits are transferred per second, the limitations are that it is only used over short distances
  6. 6Description of infraredInfrared uses infrared light to transmit data. it can only control one device at a time. very short range.
  7. 7Description of BluetoothBluetooth uses waves with short wave lengths to transmit data. good for medium distances however can suffer from interference from other devices
  8. 8SatelliteGPS stands for global positioning system. It uses satellite in space to relay data between points on earth eg. GPS good for long distances but very expensive
  9. 9Unshielded twisted paira pair of copper wires that are twisted around each other to give a connection
  10. 10Shielded twisted pairA pair of copper wires that are twisted around each other and have a shield at the base of the wire.
  11. 11Network interface cardNIC (network interface card) is the hardware of receiving wireless signals and it is built into modern day devices. The NIC connects to the NAP.
  12. 12Network access pointNAP (network access point) can be offered to you in lots of places such as cafes and libaries
  13. 13Client side ProcessingThe advantages to the client side processing is that it is faster for the data to travel on the client side. A disadvantage to the client side is that the web developer is relying on the speed of the client computer, therefore if it is slow so will the processing
  14. 14Server side processingThe advantage to the server side processing is that the servers are powerful computers and the browser is not involved with the process. The disadvantages to the server side the security is not the best as it has to travel along the internet where it is at more risk from hackers.
