- 1—Materials evaluation
Evaluators need to develop their own criteria depending on the context in which they are involved, it should be designed before materials are produced. - 2—Materials adaptation
Teachers must add, delete, modify, simplify and reorder materials in order to get the most out of it and to also work on the students abilities.
- 3—Materials production
Teaching materials must always be contextualized, but it is important to take into account the type of context we are including, we can highlight two phenomena that is being included in current materials: McDonaldization and Neo-liberalism.
- 4—McDonaldization
It is characterized by the efficiency and predictability that they want to maintain at all costs, it causes on materials and teaching practices the lost of reflection, and it is replaced by rutines and standards.
- 5—Neo-liberalism
In Neo-liberalism the market controls almost everything. Talking about teaching materials we can observe this situation on textbooks that include celebrities information, it is also remarkable the intangible services that had been added to education in order to get more money
- 6—Materials exploitation
Even though there is not much evidence about it, the materials exploitation depends on the content, the course, experiences and views about the coursebook
- 7—Issues in materials development:
There are some issues talking about development, it implies the use of materials at classroom and also the moment of design it. We will see some of them
- 8—Published materials and home-made materials
Talking about published materials we can observe that can be influenced by the phenomena previously mencioned, in the case of home-made materials, these are more attached to the context.
- 9—Controversial topics
Sometimes textbooks editors try to avoid controversial topics in order to not ot offend nobody, but those topics should be included and explained to students to help them to understand their environment and the world
- 10—Research in materials development
Actually there is not too much research in some materials aspects as exploitation, effects, appliance or evaluation.
