1Reading SkillsReading skills refers to the ability to understand or comprehend a written text, combining their understanding with prior knowledge that naturally promotes cognitive development.
2Narrative ReadingThe main idea of a narrative reading is to capture the attention of our students through a story. For example, a fairy tale is a narrative text structure whose purpose is to arouse passion for its reading.
3Document LiteracyIt is of utmost importance to the students as they consider it a research skill needed to perform document tasks. For example: job applications, payroll forms, transportation schedules, maps, and so on.
4Active ReadingActive reading is a process where several techniques are used to connect with the text. This allows students to remain engaged.
5Close ReadingClose reading is a careful and continuous explanation of short paragraphs of text. The main objective is to emphasize the interpretation of ideas and words in reading.
6Three most important factors in a reading-Topic/name of the reading.
-Main Ideas: This is the message of the author about the reading.
-Supporting details: Extra information about the reading.
7Good ReadersGood readers...
-Look for clues to draw conclusions.
-Sniff out important details.
-Connect the text to things.
-Understands the elements of a story.
-Think.
-Ask.
-Synthesizes.
-Catalog important data.
8Benefits of Annotating-Help to locate and interpretate the meaning of any text.
-Provide a variety of points to keep in mind.
-Annotating will save us time because we will not have to read something over and over to understand the meaning of the word.
