Commas can be used to separate... ...a list of things
For ending speech The comma is put inside. E.g. “I was in London last year,” she said.
For adding a subordinate clause inside the sentence E.g. Unless you have a lot of money, steer clear of Rodeo Drive.
There are some common starter words for introductory clauses that should be followed by a comma. E.g. after, because etc. Example: Because her alarm clock was broken, she was late for class.
For introducing/addressing a person E.g. "Tobias, my boyfriend, called me today."
Used between a subordinate and main clause. Having had lunch (sub), we went back to work (main).
