Questão | Responda |
Abiotic | Not associated with or derived from living organisms. Abiotic factors in an environment include such items as sunlight, temperature, wind patterns, and precipitation. |
Biotic | Consisting of living organisms. (Plants, animals, etc.) |
Artificial Selection | the process by which humans choose individual organisms with certain phenotypic trait values for breeding. |
Adaptation | an inherited trait that improves the survival of a species |
Competition | Since resources such as food, water, and space are limited, offspring must compete for the resources for survival. Individuals with a trait that gives them a competitive advantage are more likely to reproduce. |
Crossbreed | an animal or plant that's a mixture of two different breeds or types. |
Favorable trait | traits that promote an organism's success in a particular environment. |
Generation | All of the offspring that are at the same stage of descent from a common ancestor. Mothers and daughters represent two separate generations. |
Genetic Variation | There are differences among individuals within the same species. Traits that are more favorable to a species are more likely to be passed on from generation to generation, increasing the species' chances of survival. |
Overproduction | If a species produces more offspring than the environment can support, many of the offspring will not survive into adulthood. |
Population | A group of organisms of the same species located within the same geographical location. |
Species | A group of similar organisms that can breed and produce fertile offspring. |
Survival of the Fittest | the principle that animals and plants sutied to the conditions they live in are more likely to stay alive and produce other animals and plants than those that are not suited. |
Trait | a characteristic or quality of an organism (generally determined) |
Biome | areas of the earth that have similar plants, animals, and climates. Biomes are often grouped into five main types: aquatics, deserts, forests, grasslands, and tundra. |
Fitness | describes an individual's reproductive success and reflects how well an organism is adapted to its environment and to pass on its genes. |
Selective Breeding | The process of selecting a few organisms with desired traits to serve as parents of the next generation |
Evolution | The gradual change and diversification of living organisms over time. |
