  1. 1What are the three types of Back up technologies?1. Mirrored hard drives
    2. External hard drives
    3. Blue-Ray / DVDs
  2. 2What are the advantages and disadvantages of Mirrored Hard Drives?Advantages: They are automatic mirrors of the actual hard drives (physical)
Disadvantages: They are limited to the machine that they are in
  3. 3What are the advantages and disadvantages of External Hard Drives?Advantages: Can be used on multiple machines as are not limited to the machine they are in
Disadvantages: Storage and Security due to them not physically residing in one specific plance
  4. 4What are the advantages and disadvantages of Blue-Ray/DVD backups?Advantages: They are commonly used as back up medians so you won't have to use extra technology
Disadvantages: Low amount of storage space . Also similar to external drives, physical security and storage of these devices is a problem
  5. 5What is the most popular method for backing up networked systems (outside of the cloud)?Tape Backups.
Advantages: They can be put in a value which is fireproof
They can be stored in a tape storage library
They can be stored offsite to prevent backups being destroyed in the same building as the main servers
    They are good for auditings
  6. 6What is the difference between a system backup and a user backup?System backups are created automatically by the system at specific or random times
User backups are created by the user and are managed by the user
  7. 7What does the Acronym RTO stand for?RTO stands for Recovery Time Objective
    * Deals with the question how long can the business afford to wait before being back up and running?
  8. 8What does the Acronym RPO stand for?RPO stands for Recovery Point Objective
    * Deals with the question of how recent must the backup data be? How much potential data are you willing to lose?
  9. 9What questions should be asked when selecting backup solutions?1) Sufficient storage capacity for backup?
    2) Backup software and hardware reliable?
    3) Are data error checking techniques implemented?
    4) Is the said solution quick enough so the system is up and running.
  10. 10What questions should be asked when selecting a tape backup solution?1)How much does the tape drive, software and hardware cost
    2) Will the backup hardware and software be compatible with the existing solution
    3) How often is a the backup required
    4) Is the backup solution scalable?
  11. 11What are the three Backup Strategy Methods?1) Full Backup
    2) Incremental Backup
    3) Differential Backup
  12. 12What does a Full backup imply?Full backup imply that all data on all servers are copied to a storage medium
***Note a full backup clears all archive bits and sets them back to 0
  13. 13What does a Incremental backup imply?Implies that only data that has changed since the last backup are copied to the storage medium
*An archive bit is used (file attribute by MS OS
    * It has only two possible values: 1 or 0. In the case of an archive bit, a 1 or “set” value indicates that a file or directory has changed since the last backup, while a 0 or “clear” value means no changes have occurred
  14. 14What does a Differential backup imply?Implies that only data that has changed since the last full backup are copied to a storage medium and that information is then marked for subsequent backup
**Backup of all the changes that occurred after the last full backup
  15. 15What is the Grandfather-father-son backup rotation scheme consist of?Grandfather = full backup after a month
Father= full backup after a week
    Son = Incremental backup daily
  16. 16What is Disaster recovery?Process of restoring critical functionality and data after enterprise wide failure that affects more than a single system or limited users
***Usually consists of extreme occurrences rather than minor instances
  17. 17What is an Archive bit?* File attributed used by MS OS
    * When file is modified or created it is set as 1 and when it is backed up it is set to 0
*When a file with a clear archive bit is MOVED from its original location, it has its archive bit set on.
  18. 18What is Veeam? It is a software that copies VM's to a different site to restore functionality
