Networking Flashcards
Flashcards do conjunto (8)
- 1Local Area Network (LAN)A network which all nodes are located in a small geographical radius from the main server.
- 2Wide Area Network (WAN)A network which all nodes are located in a large geographical radius from the main server.
- 3Data PacketsA file which is split into many different pieces which is sent across a network. Stores data. It is reassembled at the other end.
- 4HubA central area where all nodes connect to, eg, a modem or server.
- 5Peer to Peer NetworkAll users are equal and files and peripherals can be shared.
- 6Star TopologyMost common type of server, all nodes connect to one main hub.
- 7Ring TopologyA server topology where all computers (nodes) are linked in a ring.
- 8MAC Addressing(Media Access Control) Each node has a unique MAC Address which it uses to connect to a hub. This is its identity. It can be used to limit what each device can do as its MAC Address stays the same.
