- 1Usernames and passwordsUsername helps to define the user for the network and is usually fixed by the person in charge of the system administrator or the network manager.
A password is a sequence of characters (text, numbers and other characters on the keyboard) that the user needs to type into the computer after their username in order to gain access to the network. - 2Basics on how to keep a password secure:Always use a password which is hard to guess.
A strong password will be a random collection of characters that should be difficult to guess.
Different passwords should be used for every computer system you use.
Never write your password down.
Change your password at frequent intervals. - 3Physical restrictionsDesigned to prevent unauthorised users laying their hands on the computer system's hardware.
- 4Examples of physical restrictions:Limiting the numbers of computers on the ground floor of a building.
Putting important computers such as network servers in a secure part of the building.
Ensuring that doors and windows are securely locked when computer rooms are not in use and protected by alarm systems.
