Programming

  1. What is a programming language?

    • "A programming language is a special language programmers use to develop software programs(...) to execute." (Computer Hope, 2017)
      • According to Winnie (2016) they are different forms of programming depending of what you want to do. It all depends if you need to have acces to a computer processor or if you want to abstract the hardware into a more human language.
        • Forms of programming
          • Machine language
            • Allow programmers to code instructions directly to the processor.
              • Processors
                • Are programmed by sending sequences bits through the processor and enable actions.
              • Assembly language
                • Abstraction of machine language.
                • Uses codes when is needed to modify processors registers.
              • Quiker than
          • Interpreted language
            • First the programmer writes the code and then runs it.
              • Then an interpreter reads code
                • This is obviously way slower than machine language, but is actually more readable for humans. JavaScript is an example.
                  • Then interprets it into native instructions for the computer.
          • Compiled language
            • First a human sends a code to a compiler.
              • Way faster than
                • Then the compiler takes the program instructions and converts it to binary bytecode or native code for the hardware.
                • Then creates executable program.
                  • Executable program
                    • Can't be easily converted to the original program instructios.
            • C is an example
          • Objet-Oriented Programming
            • Treats everything as an object
              • Object
                • Store values.
                • Perform methods.
                • Accept and return values.
              • The object is defined using a class.
                • The programmer crates an instance of a class that has all the capacities defined by the class.
          • Functional programming
            • Not bound by an algorithm, it's more like a function in mathemathics.
            • First, you will take a value or object.
              • Then you will modify it with the ability to string multiple transformations together using functions.
          • Scripting languages
            • When an operating system needs to execute commands to configure servers, etc, you will use scrpting language
            • This language saves common commands as a script that can be run multiple times in multiple computers.
