Internal PC components
cooling system
- Heat is generated by the flow of current between components
- the air flow from the fan in the case allows more heat to be removed
- If there is too much heat built up it can damage the components and if the heat is not removed it can make the computer run slower
CPU'S
- The central processing unit is considered the brain of the computer because it is where most of the calculations happen
- it executes a program which is a sequence of instructions which are stored
- it executes the program by processing each bit of data as directed by the program and instructions
Motherboards
- The motherboard is the main printed circuit board
- contains buses or electrical pathways found in the computer
- Buses allow data to travel between components that compromise a computer
RAM
- temporary storage for program and data that are being accessed by CPU
- RAM is a volatile memory meaning that the contents are removed when the computer is turned off
- The maximum amount of
Power supply
- The power supply must provide enough power for the components that are currently installed
ROM
- are located on the motherboard and other circuit boards. ROM chips contain instructions that can be directly accessed by a CPU
Memory modules
- Memory modules can be single-sided or double-sided. Single-sided memory modules contain RAM only on one side of the module. Double-sided memory modules contain RAM on both sides
- The individual memory chips, called dual inline package (DIP) chips,
Adaptor card and expansion slots
