present simple and present continuous

  1. Present Continuous

    • it is a verb tense that indicates an action that is occurring at the moment of speaking. It is quite similar to, for example, 'eating', 'walking', 'saying', etc. In colloquial English it also means something that is going to happen very soon.
      • The present continuous is used to talk about something that is happening at the moment we speak. We also use it to talk about something that is happening now but not necessarily when we speak. We use the present continuous to talk about something that is already decided to be done in the near future.
        • Affirmative Sentences (Affirmative phrases) Subject + auxiliary verb (to be) + verb + ing. Examples:  I'm talking. (I'm talking.)  He's eating. (He's eating.)  They're learning. (They're learning.)
          • Negative Sentences (Negative phrases) Subject + auxiliary verb (to be) + negative auxiliary (not) + verb + ing. Examples:  I'm not talking. (I'm not talking.)  He's not [He is not] eating. (He's not eating.)
            • Interrogative Sentences (Interrogative phrases) Auxiliary verb (to be) + subject + verb + ing? Examples:  Are you talking? (Are you talking?)  Is he eating? (Is he eating?)  Are they learning? (Are they learning?
  2. present simple

    • The simple present is  use to talk about things that happen habitually. Unlike with Spanish, the simple present is not used to talk  about something that is  happening at the moment we speak.
      • To conjugate the present simple we use the infinitive for the subjects "I", "you", "we" and "they" and for the third persons "he", "she" and "it", we add a "-s" to the end of the verb.
        • Affirmative Sentences (Affirmative phrases) Subject + verb
          • I talk.(Yo hablo.) He eats.(Él come.) They learn. (Ellos aprenden.)
            • Negative Sentences Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (to do) + auxiliar negativo (“not”) + verbo.
              • I do not [don’t] talk.(Yo no hablo.) He does not [doesn’t] eat.(Él no come.) They do not [don’t] learn.(Ellos no aprenden.)
                • Interrogative Sentences Verbo auxiliar (to do) + sujeto + verbo principal?
                  • Do you talk?(¿Hablas tú?) Does he eat?(¿Come él?) Do they learn?(¿Aprenden ellos?)
