Resumo de Recurso

B4a - It's a green world.
  1. Who Lives Where?
    1. Zonation - A gradual change in the population density.
      1. Abiotic Factors - pH, water or light availability can cause zonation.
        1. no. of animals caught first x no of animals caught 2nd / no. of animals caught & marked 2nd time
          1. Biodiversity - no. of organisms types in a habitat are how many of them there are
        2. Transect line - a line you take samples along
      2. Photosynthesis
        1. 6 Co2 + 6 H2O ----> C6 H12 06 + 6O2
          1. Photosynthesis is a 2 step process. 1) Water --> Hydrogen Ions and Oxygen 2) Hydrogen ions + Carbon Dioxide --> Glucose
            1. Glucose + Nitrogen ---> Protein
              1. Glocose + Magnesium --> Chlorophyll
              2. Rate Liminiting Factors = Light , Carbon Dioxide concentration & temperature
                1. Plants need light & chlorophyll to photosynthesise.
            2. Structure of a Leaf
              1. Epidermis and cuticle are transparent to allow light--> pallisade
                1. Chloroplasts close to top of leaf for efficient photosynthesis
                  1. Irregular mesophyll shaped cells = large surface area to volume rati for good diffusion of co2 from stoma to palisade
                    1. Range of photosynthesising pigments to absorb more wave lengths of light
                      1. Chloroplasts down sides of palisade cells so that some light can reach the mesophyll
                      2. Diffusion and Osmosis
                        1. Diffusion is net movement of particles from an area of high concentration --> low concentration. Increased by bigger surfaced area & smaller distance.
                          1. oxygen in leaf---> diffuses out thru stomata
                            1. Molecules diffuse until a equilibrium is reached
                            2. Passive Processes.
                              1. Osmosis is the net movement of high concentration of water --> low cencentration of water across a partially permeable membrane
                                1. partially permeable membrane = has holes in it so that water molecules can pass thru. too small for any other molecules
                                  1. Plasmosis = cell membrane comes away from cell wall
