1. Requires

   • Web browser

2. Definition

   • an HTML (HyperText Markup Language) document that describes to a web browser the document’s content and structure.

3. URIs and URLs

   • URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers)
   • URLs (Uniform Resource Locators).
     • Contains
       • information that directs a browser to the resource
       • The text http:// indicates that the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) should be used to obtain the resource
       • Next in the URL is the server’s fully qualified hostname
       • The hostname is translated into an IP (Internet Protocol) address
         • An Internet Domain Name System (DNS) server maintains a database of hostnames and their corresponding IP addresses

4. Web Site

   • A set of related static web pages typically served from a single web domain
   • A web site is hosted on at least one web server, accessible via a network such as the Internet

5. HTTP

   • the server sends one or more HTTP headers, which provide additional information about the data that will be sent
     • The information provided in this header specifies the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) type
   • The two most common HTTP request types (also known as request methods) are get and post.
     • An HTTP request often posts data to a server-side form handler that processes the data

6. Ajax

   • Asynchronous JavaScript and XmlHttpRequest
     • allows a web browser communicate with a web server indirectly
