1. Laser

   • Advantages
     • Quiet
     • Large quantity of printouts very quickly
     • Best quality
     • Cost Per page is low
   • Disadvantages
     • Most expensive to buy
     • Toner is more expensive than ink cartridges
     • Expensive to repair
     • Bulky/Big

2. Ink-Jet

   • Advantages
     • Cheaper to buy
     • More compact that a laser printer
     • Cartridges cost less
   • Disadvantages
     • Noiser than a laser
     • Colour printing can be very slow
     • Cartridges can dry out if not used in a while
     • Ink can smudge if still wet
     • Cartridges need to be replaced more often than a laser

3. Dot-Matrix

   • Advantages
     • Quite cheap to buy
     • Low operating costs
     • Can create carbon copy is using carbonised paper
     • Will work well in bad conditions e.g factory or a garage.
   • Disadvantages
     • Print quality is low- not suitable for important documents
     • Very slow
     • Noisy
     • Cannot produce colour copies

4. Plotter

   • Advantages
     • Drawings are of the same quality as an experts hand made version.
     • Large sheets of paper are used that most printers cannot manage
   • Disadvantages
     • Slower than printers- each line is drawn seperately
     • More expensive than normal printers
     • Do not produce high quality text
