Elements and Molecules

1. An element is a single substance made entirely out of one type of atom.

   • These exist as either single or joined atoms.
   • Examples: Hydrogen, oxygen, potassium

2. A molecule is a group of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds.

   • These atoms can be single or joined.

3. Compounds are substances that contain two or more elements chemically bonded together.

   • Such as: Carbon dioxide or water.

4. Difference between an element and compound

   • A compound is a substance composed from two or more different elements. A molecule is the term used to describe atoms that are connected by chemical bonds
