Types of computer systems

1. Multi-functional devices

   • They perform multiple functions; such as printers include a built-in scanner. The scanner is often on the top of the device so that it can also be used as a photocopier. Therefore, this one device can print, photocopy and scan documents when attached to any computer connected to it over a network or through a cable.

2. Personal computers

   • Personal Computers (PCs) are widely used for work and by individuals at home. The work carried out on PCs includes anything useful to an organisation and normally requires the use of software programs such as word processors, spreadsheets, and databases, programming environments or other software apps.

3. Mobile devices

   • These are multi-functional, as they not only consist of a computer, but can include camera and, in the case of Smartphone’s or smart watches, they are also phones. They are small enough to fit into your hand.

4. Servers

   • Servers are computers that run a network operating system such as Microsoft Windows Server. Used to control the network and the users logged into the system on workstations (which are also known as client computers).
