   • best programs are easy to use and intuitive
     • there are some easy things to do when designing the user interface to make a program easier to use
       • arranged controls (that is arranged in the order they are likely to be used)
         • controls grouped by function all make it easier for the user to figure out how the program is to be used.

2. Reliable and robust

   • cope with errors
     • best way to ensure a program is as robust as possible
       • can cope with being used incorrectly

3. Maintainability

   • every commercial software needs to be maintained
     • with updates
       • bug fixes
         • and new feautures

4. Portability

   • able to run a different hardware or software
     • important for some systems
       • Java, as an example, can support different types of hardware
