1. Extended ASCII

   • disadvantages
   • advantages
     • charactersit can represent 128
     • Extended ASCII can allow for the representation of 256 characters and disregards that use of a parity bit

2. What is a character set

   • each character has its own unique binary code
   • All the characters the computer systems can display

3. ASCII

   • disadvantages
     • you can't use emojis
     • small one byte per character
     • only basic characters available
   • advantages
     • Uses 7 bits to represent a character
     • takes up less storage
   • 7 bit= 1 byte

4. Unicode

   • How many bits per character
     • Unicode uses two bytes per character (16 bits)
   • disadvantages
     • More bits are needed for non-ASCII characters, so some documents take a bit more space than with encodings that are specific to a particular language or writing system. However, standard text compression mitigates this in most cases
     • you cant use latin
   • advantages
     • Unicode is a very large character set containing the characters of virtually every written language
     • 1 million characters can be encoded
     • It supports emoji characters
