Electrons in atoms

1. Electrons are found in shells around the nucleus.

   • Shells only exist if there are electrons in them.
     • The first shell contains 2 electrons then the rest contain 8.

2. Electrons in the same shell have the same energy level.

3. Electron configuration is the number and arrangement of electrons in an atom.

4. The closer to the nucleus a shell is, the more energy is needed to remove the electrons.
