1.2 memory v2
Flash Memory
- Flash Memory- is a type of memory that is a solid state and has no moving parts.
- a memory stick is an example of this.
- flash memory maintains data in the absent of power supply
- solid state drives
- Flash Memory- is a type of memory that is a solid state and has no moving parts.
ROM
- ROM- Read only memory and this is Non Volatile
- Non Volatile- Doesn't lose data when the device is turned off
- ROM- Read only memory and this is Non Volatile
Cache
- Cache- Cache is another type of storage and it is close to the CPU however it doesn't contain a lot of memory
- it is faster than RAM
- Cache is volatile
- Cache- Cache is another type of storage and it is close to the CPU however it doesn't contain a lot of memory
Virtual Memory
- Virtual memory is an area of secondary storage that is used like RAM
- it is temporary storage
- it is located on the hard drive
- When the Hard drive is full you can no-longer do things such as copy
- Magnetic storage device
- Virtual memory is needed to let more memory in then there is in the system
- Hardware which stores data other than RAM and ROM
- Virtual memory is an area of secondary storage that is used like RAM
Register
- Register-A CPU register is one of a small set of data holding places that are part of the computer processor. A register may hold an instruction, a storage address or any kind of data
Solid State
- Solid State- this is NO moving parts and it uses flash memory
- because it has no movement it is very hard to hack
- solid states are faster than Hard disk because there is zero latency
- Portable
- lightweight
- Durable
- Solid State- this is NO moving parts and it uses flash memory
RAM
- RAM- Random access memory and this is volatile
- Volatile- Gets emptied when the power is turned off.
- very expensive
- RAM- Random access memory and this is volatile
