THE NEOLITHIC AGE

1. THE BEGINNING

   • The Neolithic Age began around 10,000 years ago with the discovery of farming.
   • The Neolithic Age means "New Stone Age"

2. FOOD PRODUCTION AND SEDENTARY LIFE

   • People in the Neolithic Age learnt from nature.
     • Agriculture
       • The origin of the agriculture was when humans learnt that new plants grow from buried seeds.
         • The tools that were used in agriculture were:
           • HOES
           • SICKLES
           • HAND MILL
           • AXES
     • Sedentary Life
       • People of the Nolithic Age settled in villages so they could look after their crops and animals
     • Livestock farming
       • The origin of the agriculture was when humans wanted to domesticate animals, so pleople began to breed animals in captivity. The men and the women of the Neolithic didn´t hunt anymore because they made farms.

3. NEW TASKS AND NEW TOOLS

   • New agricultural tasks caused humans to invent specialised tools such as the hoe and the axe.
     • The reasons why the pottery developed are:
       • Store
       • Transport
       • Cook food

4. A NEOLITHIC VILLAGE

   • THERE WAS SELF-SUFICIENT
     • The inhabitants consumed what they produced.
   • THE MATERIALS OF THE HOMES WERE:
     • ADOBE (mud and straw)
     • BRICKS
     • THE ROOFS WERE MADE OF BRANCHES AND STRAW
       • HOMES WERE USUALLY RECTANGULAR OR CIRCULAR AND THERE WAS A FIREPLACE AND A STOREROOM.
   • THE FIRST DOMESTICATED ANIMALS WERE:
     • DOGS
     • GOATS
     • SHEEP
     • PIGS
   • THE FIRST CROPS WERE:
     • CEREALS
       • WHEAT, RYE AND BARLEY
     • PULSES
       • LENTILS AND PEAS
   • THEY USED SILOS
     • Neolithic people dug silos in the ground to store grain. (Silos are holes covered with clay to keep the grain dry).
   • PLACE
     • Villages were located on high ground next to rivers. They were usually protected by walls and ditches.
