Calcium Carbonate(Limestone)
  1. Thermal Decomposition
    1. When it breaks down when heated strongly
      1. Sodium carbonate, magnesium carbonate and copper carbonate decompose the same way.
        1. Metals LOW on the reactivity series decompose EASILY
        2. Making Calcium Oxide
          1. Calcium Carbonate is heated strongly forming calcium oxide
          2. Making Calcium Hydroxide
            1. Calcium Oxide reacts with water forming calcium hydroxide
            2. Reactions with acids
              1. carbonates react with acid to make carbon dioxide
                1. carbon dioxide can be detected using limewater
              2. Calcium Hydroxide
                1. When limestones heated it decomposes the calcium carbonate
                  1. forms calcium oxide
                    1. reacts with water and forms calcium hydroxide
                      1. used to neutralise excess acidity('cos it's an alkali)
                2. Cement, Mortar and Concrete
                  1. cement
                    1. made by heating powdered limestone with clay
                      1. an ingredient in mortar and concrete
                      2. mortar
                        1. used to join bricks together
                          1. made by mixing cement, sand and water
                          2. concrete
                            1. made by mixing cement, sand , water and aggregate(crushed rock)
