Christian attitudes to abortion.

1. Protestant

   • Life doesn't begin at conception.
   • Abortion may be the most loving thing to do and Jesus teaches us to love each other.
   • The sanctity of life can be broken in a just war so why not in a just abortion.
   • If abortion is made illegal poor women may get dangerous backstreet abortions and rich women will just go abroad.
   • They should accept new technology that could show if a baby is seriously disabled and therefore would not have a good quality of life if kept alive.

2. Catholic / Evangelical

   • Life is holy and only belongs to God.
   • The Ten Commandments says that taking a life is against the laws of God.
   • Putting a baby up for adoption is a better alternative than having an abortion.
   • Every person has a right to life.
   • In the case of rape: one sinful act should not provoke another (having an abortion)
   • Life begins at the moment of conception.
   • DOUBLE EFFECT It is not abortion if, in saving the mother, the baby dies however the aim was not to kill the foetus.
