DEVELOPMENT INDICATORS

1. There is no one way to calculate development. Geographers use a series of indicators to compare the development of one country to another.

   • Health
     • Do the population have acess to medical care?
     • What level of helthcare is available? Is it free?
   • Industrustry
     • What type of industry dominates?
       • LEDC mainly focus on primary industries, such as: farming, fishing and mining.
       • MEDC focus on secondary industries such as manufacturing.
       • Most advanced countries focus on teritiar industries like:Banking and IT
   • Education
     • Do the population have acess to education?
     • Is it free?
     • What level of education can you get?( Primary, secondary, university...)

2. The north south divide

   • MEDC are countries with high standard of living and LEDC are countries with a low standard of living
     • This image shows that most of the countries in the northern hemisphere are MEDC and most countries in the southern hemisphere are LEDCS.
