VIRTUALIZATION

VIRTUALIZATION

1. Virtualization lets different users have different environments/OS's using a single common hardware platform

2. Benefits

   • Decrease capital costs
   • Multiple OS can be hosted
   • Efficient resource provisioning
   • Easily portable

3. Challenges

   • Resource constraints
   • Network implementation
   • Compatibility

4. Drawbacks

   • Performance is unstable
   • Virtual Storage latency
   • Security is difficult

5. Types of Hypervisor

   • Type 1 Hypervisor
     • Runs directly on the underlying computer's physical hardware
   • Type 2 Hypervisor
     • Installed as a software application on an existing operating system

6. Cloud + Virtualization

   • Benefits
     • Scalability
     • Highly portable
     • Processes are streamlined
