Task 7 -DATA ANALYSIS, QUALITATIVE DATA

1. Exploratory Data Analysis.

   • Analysing data collected from interviews, questionnaires etc..
     • Goal: to define patterns of relationships between categories.
   • Using open ended questions.
     • Coding open ended questions.
       • Coding is the process of identifying and classifying each answer with a numerical score or other character symbol.
       • Provide for all possible responses.
       • Ensure categories are mutually exclusive with no over laps.
       • Descriptive / Inferential (bivariate) analysis?
         • Descriptive: Simplest form - provides an idea of what is actually happening. (one variable)
           • Frequency distribution
             • Tabulation.
               • Bar Charts, Pie charts, tables.
           • Measurement of central tendency.
             • Mean, Median, Mode
         • Inferential: Statistical tests. (Two or more variable)
           • Parametric (T test)
           • Non-parametric test (chi-square)
           • Spearman rank correlation coefficient.
           • Pearson product moment correlation coefficient.
           • 1. Form research hypothesis.
             • 2. State Null hypothesis.
               • 3. Choose appropriate statistical test to determine direction of investigation.
                 • 4. Calculate test results.
                   • 5. Decide significance.
                     • Calculated figure is less than the critical value - accept null hypothesis.
   • Results are not obtained by statistical procedures or other methods of quantification.
   • Using closed ended questions.
     • Precoded response.

2. Recording the information.

   • Questionnaires.
   • Interviews.
     • Using a Dictaphone, I will record my interviews to enable me to fully analyse the conversation.
   • Case Studies.
