Semantics

1. Sense

   • Mental representation - what I think it is
   • Determines what can and cannot be a ¨reference¨
   • What things can be considered.

2. Reference

   • It is based on the knowledge we have of something.
   • It is an act of the speaker which has to do with his intentions and the context in which it is used.

3. Denotation

   • It's a signal that signifies the actual object in the world
   • This is not part of what the speaker does , this is what the linguistic expression does all by itself.

4. Connotation

   • Determines what can and cannot be a benchmark.
