Knowledge Based Systems

1. made up of four parts

   • A Knowlege Base which is a large database of intelligence which was gathered with the help of subject experts in the creation of the software
   • HCI which allow the user to input certain data figures and get a result from the knowledge base , The user interface will pass requests on to the inference engine which, in turn, interrogates the knowledge base this then further limits the scope of the database through more and more streamlined questions until the user finds the needed piece of data
   • Inference Engine which is an algorythm which dictates how the rules in the rules base are applied to the program and knowlege base
   • A rules base which makes sure that your search for data does not become overwhelming because of the lack of rules when searching through the Database

2. Uses of knowlege based systems

   • These can be generic software like SIMS which allows you to input various required data about people who are employed in a place such as a college or a buisiness
   • each knowledge-based system is restricted to a narrow area of knowledge. It may be geological patterns in the oil exploration industry, medical diagnosis in the doctor’s waiting room
