Task requirements
- Self-determined criteria
- Spinning
- Displaying a picture
- Feedback
- Sounds
- Scream when it senses obstacle
- Beep for 5 seconds when senses an obstacle
- Prescribed criteria
- Follow a safe path to the exit
- Use sensor to identify any dangers or obstacles
- Use sensors to avoid/manouvre any dangers or obstacles
- Complete a room-specific challenge
- Self-determined criteria
Spike Prime robot
- Motors
- Sensors
- Distance sensor
- Measures distance between the robot & objects in front of it
- Colour sensor
- Detects colours underneath the robot
- Pressure sensor
- Measures physical push, release, and bump states
- Distance sensor
Coding constructs
- Arrays
- a special variable that can hold multiple pieces of information at the same time under a single name.
- A list of text strings fruits = ["Apple", "Banana", "Cherry"] # Accessing the first item (Index 0) print(fruits[0]) # Outputs: Apple
- a special variable that can hold multiple pieces of information at the same time under a single name.
- Variables
- A named storage container in that holds information or data that can change
- player_name = "Alex"
- age = 15
- A named storage container in that holds information or data that can change
- IF statements
- tells robot to run a specific piece of code only if a certain condition is true
- if score = 90: print("Congratulations! You got an A.")
- tells robot to run a specific piece of code only if a certain condition is true
- FOR loop
- Programming tool that repeats a block of code a specific number of times or through a list of items.
- # The range starts at 1 and stops right before 6 for i in range(1, 6): print(i)
- Programming tool that repeats a block of code a specific number of times or through a list of items.
- Arrays
Algorithm constructs/pseudocode
- Sequence
- Running instructions in a strict, step-by-step order
- Assignment
- Storing a value inside a variable
- Selection and condition
- Selection: decision-making control structure that lets a program choose different paths of execution
- Condition: specific logical test (evaluating to true or false) that determines which path the program takes.
- Iteration
- repeating a specific block of instructions multiple times
- Sequence
Planned response
- Rockfall Challenge
- Robot must follow the black path, push the obstacle out of the way, then return to the path to escape by reaching the exit.
- Solution: Use the distance sensor to sense the obstacle and program the robot to speed up when obstacle is sensed to have enough force to clear the pathway. Additionally, robot must be programmed to push the obstacle to the side rather than forwards to permanently remove the obstacle.
- Robot must follow the black path, push the obstacle out of the way, then return to the path to escape by reaching the exit.
- Poison Ivy Challenge
- Robot must follow the black path, navigate around an obstacle without contact, and return to the path to escape by reaching the exit.
- Solution: Distance sensor must be used to detect the obstacle from far away to avoid contact. Program the robot to turn left and move right when obstacle is detected, and repeat these movements until the robot travels past the obstacle.
- Robot must follow the black path, navigate around an obstacle without contact, and return to the path to escape by reaching the exit.
