1. 3 Main parts.

   • Data.
     • Data is text or numbers you type in.
   • Formulae.
     • e.g: =SUM(A1:E1)This SUM function is used to add up the cells A1, E1 and everything in between. Without this, we would have a very long formula of =A1+B1+C1+D1+E1!
     • Formulas are automatic calculations.
   • Labels

2. Functions.

   • =average(A1:E1)
   • IF(A1>A9, "PASS" "FAIL")
   • =MAX(A1:E1) Find the biggest in the range.

3. Formatting techniques.

   • Coloured borders can be added to the edge of each cell.
   • Cells can be formatted according tot their data type, e.g cells with money can automatically have a pound (£) sign placed at the front by assigning a currency data type.
   • Cells can be merged or combined together, e.g cells A1:C1 can merge to form one big cell of A1.
   • The background fill tool can change the colour of the cells.

4. Advantages

   • When data changes, formulas automatically recalculate.
   • Charts and graphs can be produced and customized very easily.
   • Spreadsheets can make working with a numbers a lot easier.
