Data Representation In Images

  1. BITMAPS

    • Store each pixel mapped onto the Memory
    • When Scaled Up Look very Pixelated
    • Take up large amounts of Memory
      • Memory Used by an Image
        • =
          • Width * Height * Colour Selection (Memory Used per pixel to declare what colour it is)
      • As use the Colour selection worth of memory per pixel, even when not needed at all
        • Other Formats that use pixel data, commonly use a form of compression to try and save memory space
    • File Suffix: .bmp
    • Can be considered the most basic method of saving a picture
  2. VECTORS

    • Don't Pixelate after being scaled
    • Store each shape/line as data with relative coordinates, size e.c.t
      • Storing Shapes/Lines
        • Square
          • Centre relative coordinate
          • Size
          • Data for the lines
          • Fill colour
        • Lines
          • Width
          • Colour
          • If not from another shape
            • Start Relative Coordinates
            • End Relative Coordinates
        • Circle
          • Centre Relative Coordinates
          • Radius
          • Data for the line
  3. Commonly used amounts of data for saving colours

    • RGB
      • 3Byte / 24Bit
        • 16777216 Colours
    • RGBA
      • 4Byte/ 32Bit
        • 4294967296 Colours
    • But other amounts can be used, even as low as 2bit
  4. METADATA

    • DATA about the DATA
    • In Bitmaps (And other image Types)
      • Stores
        • WIDTH
        • HEIGHT
        • COLOUR RANGE
        • Additional Tag DATA
          • Author
          • Date Created
