Resumo de Recurso

arthroma
  1. Damage to lining of artery caused by carbon monoxide, hypertension or high levels of LDLS
    1. Blood LDLs pass into the tunica intima and accumulate-stimulate immune responce
      1. Macrophages engulf the LDL in the tunica intima, die and turn into foam cells
        1. Over time a fatty streak forms made of LDL molecules and foam molecules and foam cells (first visible sign of atherosclerosis)
          1. Smooth muscle cells grow around the fatty streak. Smooth muscle cells cause the proteins collagen and elastin to be laid down forming a fibrous cap
            1. LDL's continue to build up behind the fibrous cap eventually forming an arthroma or plaque
              1. The arthroma may burst causing blood clots to form and further increasing the thickness of the fibrous cap
                1. Eventually the lumen becomes narrower and restricts the flow of blood
