1. Gender Recognition task

   • Control
   • two control tasks:
     • identifying the gender by the eyes
     • 25 pictures used in the eyes task (SAME)
     • people that took part in the eyes task

2. Basic emotion recognition task

   • Control
     • BOTH CONTROL TASK'S were needed to show that the only reason the autistic performed badly/ poorly is that they lacked TOM and that there was nothing wrong with their eyes or perception
   • two control tasks:
     • judging photos of whole faces displaying basic emotions x6 - say what emotion

3. Happe Strange stories task

   • Experimental
   • to all participants
   • short stories
   • a validated TOM test - read stories say what they say - True/False
   • gives the eyes task concurrent validity
   • Happe Strange stories results:
     • TOURETTES = 100% correct
       • AUTISTICS = significantly impared

4. Eyes Task

     • black and white
     • from a magazine
     • 3 seconds
     • 15x10
   • Target or Foil
     • 2 word opposites
   • Eyes Task results:
     • NORMAL males = 18.8/25

     • we can conclude that autistics struggled significantly with the eyes task which proves they lack TOM with a mean scoring of 16.3 which is proven in the Gender Recognition task where they scored better both of the other with the score of 24.1 which shows they can recognise sex
     • we can also conclude that people with autism can identify gender of people through their eyes by scoring 24.1 which shows that they have nothing wrong their eyes, only that they lack TOM
