     • Selectivity: some information must be rejected (or suppressed) and other information selected for primary processing

     • Supervisory (top down) control unnecessary for routine behaviours - For non-routine control, top down control enables the appropriate choice of behaviour by the biasing of activation values of competing action schemas

2. WORKING MEMORY AND G

   • complex working memory measures, predict a general ability to maintain information on-line in the face of interference (rather than being dependent upon the specific task employed)
   • Thus, working memory capacity may reflect a common construct that is not task specific
   • Conway and Engle (1994): working memory capacity is largely a reflection of the ability to attend successfully in the context of potent interference
