Computing Revision

1. CPU

   • Central processing unit
     • Fetches, decode and execute data and/or instruction

2. RAM

   • Stores the programs, part of the operating system and the files currently being used

3. Hardware

   • Hardware is like everything that is in your computer. Here are some examples: CPU, RAM, Optical storage, Magnetic Storage, Solid state storage, virtual memory, secondary storage,....
   • Virtual memory
     • Is used to allow more programs and data to be loaded when RAM is insufficien
   • Hard Drive
     • Stores all programs, operating system and files needed for the computer to work
   • Cores
     • The number of proccesor in the CPU which run the fetch, decode and execute cycle at the same time
   • Clock speed
     • The measurement of who many times the CPU can perform the fetch, decode and execute cycle.
   • Hertz
     • The speed measument of the CPU
   • Storages
     • Optical storage
       • Optical storage is whn data is written and read with a laser. CDs, DvDs and Blu-ray are examples of this storage
     • Magnetic storage
       • Data is stored by magnetising the surface of flat circular plates, called platters
     • Solid state storage

4. Secondary storage

   • Storage used for a computer system to save data, even when there is no power connected to it

5. Network

   • Connection types
     • Ethernet
       • Ethernet cables, are cables that you plug into the computer and you have an internet connection but you need a username and a password like in HPA when we want to login into the computer
     • Bluetooth
       • Is a type of connection in which you can connect up to 7 devicess together. (E.g when you connect your phone to a speaker to listne to music)
     • GPRS
       • GPRS is a signal that gives you 3G,4G,5G,... it's really slow because a lot of people is connected at the same time, even if the signal is from Wales, you will still have connection! It dosen't matter ( but needs to be in your country) how far you are, you will still have connection
     • WI-FI
       • WI-FI like the 'nick-name' of internet, because internet is the real nam. Internet is a connection that lets you go to different websites. In the inside of the modem you got a little chip that spreads connection around the place.
   • Network security (FAPE)

       • Firewall
         • Firewall is a type of program that detects which programs can send and receive data from.
     • P
       • Password
         • password is a word that protects your social media, files, computer, etc.... a password needs to contain a minimum of 8 characters and it needs to include symbols, capital letters and numbers if ypu want your password 'extra' protective
     • E
       • Encryption
         • Encryption is when you encrypt something so it cannot be read. (E.g Mr Craig // Nq dqahf , I've pu the letter before than the other ones)
     • A
       • Anti-malware
         • Anti-malware is a program thta detects if your computer has any viruses, worms, zombies and trojan horses. And if your computer and files has the virues,etc... and it tells you what do you want to do with them.
   • WPAN
     • Wireless personal area network. We use this connection when we are using peripherals. (E.G When we send a file to print out on the printer. A printer is a peripheral) Is like Bluetooth
   • WAN
     • Wide Area Network. We use we use the network when the WI-FI connection small building, houses....
   • LAN
     • Local Area Network. We use it when we are in a big building. We use wifi extenders to expand the WI-FI through the building
