Types of Databases

1. Local

   • It can only be accessed on one device with one set of credentials (Unless you create another account on that device)

2. Network

   • It can be accessed on as many devices as you want, with as many set of credentials as you want too

3. Online

   • Examples
     • Facebook
     • Amazon
     • Netflix
     • Twitter
   • Why are they used
     • They are used to keep users updated on the database, as well as storing data. These networks are good to use for customers, however internet speed and bandwidth can make accessing it potentially difficult

4. Relational

   • A series of tables of data linked together. They use foreign keys to link to the other tables. Primary keys are used to identify each subject individually. Modifications can be made easier, it is more efficient and it is simpler
   • Features
     • Information separated into discrete entities
       • Based on the real world
       • e.g. employee, products, order
     • Entities are described by a series of Fields
       • Describes the structure of the entity
       • e.g. product name, weight, prices
     • Entities are connected by a series of Relationships
       • Built using common field
       • Represented by entity relationship diagrams (ERDs)

5. Flat

   • A single table of data
