1. physical

   • gross motor
     • can maintain a sitting position
     • can sit unsupported for up to 15 minutes
     • turn thier body to look sideways
     • pull themselves to a standing position
     • stand holding on to furniture
     • find ways of moving about the floor
     • take some steps when both hands are held
   • fine motor
     • manipulate toys
     • grasp objects between finger and thumb
     • can release a toy from their grasp
     • move arms up and down when excited

2. cognitive and language

   • can judge the size of an object up to 60 cm away
   • look in the correct direction for fallen toys
   • watch a toy being hidden and then look for it
   • recognise familiar picures
   • understand their daily rutine
   • increase variety of intonation
   • enjoy communicating with sounds
   • imitate adult sounds
   • know general characteristics of their language

3. emotional and social

   • enjoy pointing at objects
   • enjoy making noises
   • drink from a cup with help
   • take everything to the mouth
   • need to have a comfort object
   • show definite likes and dislikes at meals and bedtimes
   • play alone for longs periods
   • enjoy songs and rhymes
   • prefer to be near to familiar adult
