Atoms, compounds and Isotopes

1. Elements are building blocks of all mateials, more than 100 are made up of atoms

   • Atoms can join together to form bigger building blocks called MOLECULES!
   • Compounda are formed when atoms of two or more elements are chemically combines

2. Different elements contain different types of atoms, atoms cannot be made/destroyed

3. Electrons occupy shells (energy levels)

   • Lowest energy is alwatys filled 1st - closest to nucleus
     • Like to have full electron shells like noble gases in group 0
       • Most cases, outer shell isn't full and this is why it reacts
