The secret to creativity
Creative imagination
- Its different form the cratvity that we use everyday, like as coming up with imaginative solutions to household problems or making crafts. Have different solutions for one problem.
- Creative inspiration is notoriously elusive. The ability to induce ou in the state of creativity is what most of the artist look so they can have more material.
- For example, some studies have shown that when children are with people that has crativity, the absorb taht and become more creative
- There are two parts to creative imagination. “Divergent thinking” is the ability of think a bunch of ideas, all somehow connected to a main problem or topic. It tends to be supported by intuitive thinking, which is fast and automatic. You then need “convergent thinking” to help you evaluate the ideas for usefulness within the main problem or topic.
Fantastical imagination
- The ability to get completely absorbed by an idea is key to finalizing a successful creative project. For that you need something that scientists call "fantastic imagination", made up of fantasy and imaginative immersion. These describe your tendency to have very vivid and realistic fantasies and your level of absorption in imaginary worlds.
- However, since fantastic imagination can increase daydreaming and distract from daily obligations, it may not seem like a desirable skill at first glance. There is even a bad side, which is that one's fantastic imagination tends to increase in response to traumatic events by becoming an escape from one's own reality.
- Some benefits are that the participation of fantasy in children is associated with greater creative imagination, high ability to narrate and having a good perspective on things. On the other hand, for adults, it improves memory, creative way of solving problems and planning.
Episodic imagination
- "Episodic imagination" is similar to fantastical imagination but predominantly makes use of real memory details rather than imaginary (semantic) details when visualising events in our mind’s eye.
- This allows people to better envision alternate pasts and learn from their mistakes, as well as imagine and plan for their futures. According to the limited studies done so far, people with a higher capacity for ocular imagery perceive more sensory details while considering their future.
- Furthermore, through years of self-help books advising you to "imagine it and it will happen," this is the exact opposite of what you should be doing. The best way to prepare for the future is to envision the method – not the result – of the occurrence you want to happen in the future. According to one study, when students visualized ideal results (good grades for an upcoming indagación), they were more likely to achieve them.
