CPU, RAM and ROM

1. RAM

   • It stands for: Random Access Memory
   • Programs, applications and data is stored on the RAM
   • RAM is volatile
     • This means that when the computer is switched off the memory and content within is lost

2. CPU

   • It stands for: Central Programming Unit
   • The CPU is the brains of the computer where most calculation take place
   • The CPU has many parts (components)
     • The first one is the arithmetic logic unit (ALU) which performs simple arithmetic and logical operations
     • The second part is the control unit (CU), which manages the various components of the computer
   • CLOCK SPEED
     • Clock speed is the operating speed of a computer, it is expressed in cycles per second

3. ROM

   • It stands for Read Only Memory
   • ROM is memory that cannot be changed by a program or a user
   • ROM is Non-volatile
     • This means that when the computer is switched off the memory is saved

4. MOTHERBOARD

   • A motherboard is the main printed circuit board found in computers and other expandable items
     • It holds together all the crucial parts of a computer
