Steps of method study

  1. Select: Choose the process or task to be studied.

    • Record: Document the current method using various recording techniques (e.g., flow charts, diagrams).
      • Examine: Analyze the recorded data to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
        • Develop: Propose alternative methods or solutions to improve the process.
          • Evaluate: Assess the feasibility and potential benefits of the proposed methods.
            • Define: Clearly define the new method and plan its implementation.
              • Install: Implement the new method in the actual work environment.
                • Maintain: Continuously monitor and maintain the new method to ensure sustained improvements.
  2. Operation Diagram

    • A Concept of Operations (ConOps) diagram visually represents the operational structure, functions, and interactions within a system. It provides a high-level view of the system's operation from the perspective of its users and stakeholders. The ConOps diagram helps in understanding the system’s purpose, components, and how they interact to achieve the desired outcomes.
  3. process diagram

    • a graphical and symbolic representation of the activities performed on the work piece during the operation in industrial engineering
  4. String diagram

    • The string diagram is a scale layout drawing on which, length of the string is used to record the extent as well as the pattern of the movement of a worker working within a limited area during a certain period of time
  5. Travel chart

    • is square tabular where each column and row represents single work station. * Construction of travel chart depends on the "from-to" chart. Once the frequency & distance travelled between workstations is meaured, the total distance travelled is placed in terms of each distance travelled. * According to that change the layout design of the plant with the aim to reduce the total distance travelled.
  6. Multiple Activity Chart

    • used to show the interrelationships of individuals in teams of workers, or the relationships between workers and equipment, usually during the record stage of Method Study.
  7. graphically represents the relationship between the cycle time of the operator (worker) and the operating cycle of the machine or other work facilities are handled by the worker.

    • Man Machine Char
  8. two handed process chart

    • A two-handed process chart is a tool of method study & helps to study the repetitive activity of a worker’s two hands. now a day’s in a repetitive environment many repetitive manual activities are performed in the organization and if we are not focused to investigate & minimize them on a structural basis that will be a major impact on operational productivity
