Traditional methodologies
Waterfall Model
- Linear & Sequential, and Documentation-Driven
- Requirements → Design → Implementation → Testing → Deployment → Maintenance.
- It's recommended for well-defined, stable projects with minimal expected changes.
Rational Unified Process (RUP)
- Inception → Elaboration → Construction → Transition.
- Focuses on defining and refining system functionality via use cases.
- Divides the project into cycles with multiple iterations.
- Ideal for complex and evolving projects requiring adaptability and risk management.
V-Model (Verification & Validation Model)
- Each development phase has a corresponding testing phase and is tested before proceding
- It allows to test early stage errors
- Requirements → Design → Implementation → Unit Testing → Integration Testing → System Testing → Acceptance Testing.
- Mostly used for critical systems where testing at every stage is crucial (e.g., healthcare, aerospace).
- Each development phase has a corresponding testing phase and is tested before proceding
