Robot assignment

  1. Task requirement

    • Prescribed criteria
      • Follow a safe path to the exit
        • line following
        • Identifying green boxes to turn
      • Use sensor to identify any dangers or obstacles
        • Distance sensor
        • Force sensor
      • Use sensor(s) to avoid or manoeuvre any dangers or obstacles.
        • Force sensor
        • Distance sensor
      • Complete a room-specific challenge.
        • Poison Ivy Challenge! Follow the black path through the room to the exit. But beware, a hedge covered in poison ivy is blocking part of the path. Do not touch the hedge! Navigate around the hedge and back onto the black path to escape by reaching the exit.
          • distance sensor, color sensor to detect obstacle while staying on the path.
        • Rock Fall Challenge! Follow the black path through the room to the exit. But beware, a heavy rock has fallen from an archway and is blocking part of the path. Move the rock from the path! Clear the rock out of the way and then return to the path to escape by reaching the exit.
          • distance sensor,
    • Self determined criteria
      • Light
        • Robto should display Sad smile with light when obstacle is detected
      • Sound
        • When robot has arrived at the exit/ sensed the color red, cheerful sound should be executed
  2. Coding constructs

    • Arrays
      • An array is a coding construct that stores a collection of related data items under a single variable name. Each item inside the array is accessed using an index number, allowing programs to efficiently organize and loop through large amounts of information.
        • BEGINshopping_list = ["Milk", "Eggs", "Bread"]PRINT shopping_list[0] shopping_list[1] = "Cheese"END
    • variables
      • A variable is a named storage location in a computer's memory used to hold data that can change during program execution. It acts like a labeled box, allowing a program to save, retrieve, and update information—such as a user's score or name—whenever needed.
        • BEGIN user_name = "Sam"score = 0 score = score + 10 END
  3. Algorithm constructs/pseudocode

    • sequence
      • An algorithm is a step-by-step set of rules to solve a problem. Pseudocode is a simple, plain-English way to write out that algorithm before writing real code. The sequence construct is the basic building block where computer instructions run one after another in a straight line
        • examples; START, END, INPUT.
    • Assingment
      • An assignment statement stores a calculated value into a variable name using an equals sign (=) or an arrow (<-). The computer evaluates the right side first, then saves that result into the variable container listed on the left. For example, score = 100 puts the number 100 into the variable called score for later use.
        • Declare, Begin, Total
    • Selection&condition
      • A selection construct lets a program make decisions and choose different paths based on a condition. A condition is a true-or-false question, like checking if a user's age is over 18. If the condition is true, the computer runs one specific set of actions; if it is false, the computer skips those actions or runs an alternative path instead. In pseudocode, this decision-making process is written using IF, THEN, and ELSE statements.
        • IF, ELSE, ENDIF, THEN
    • Iteration
      • repeationg a block of constructs multiple times, which is more reffered to as a loop. This allows the program to clenly exeucte this cycle until a goal/limit is reached
        • IF, ENDIF.
  4. Spike Prime Robot

    • Motors
      • Used to make the robots move forward, backwards, detour, turn. resposible for motion
    • Distance sensor
      • Detects the distance of any object/ obstacle ahead.
    • Color sensor
      • Detects the black path allowing it to follow, turn at the green corners and the red box for its end
    • Lights
      • Used for decoration, communication, in this instance it will let us know if it has detected the obstacle and when it has finished.
    • Force sensor
      • Detects the force of any object or obstacle in the way when in contact.
