   • Form is the basic shape of a structure.

2. function

   • A function is the job that the structure does.

3. forces

   • A force is a push or pull on a structure.
   • point of application
     • The force meets the structure.
   • plane of application
     • The side of the structure affected by the force

4. Types of Structures

   • Natural Structure
     • structures made by nature and not by humans. Eg.cave
     • natural
   • Man made structures.
     • structures influenced by human beings.eg.bridges.
     • soild structure
       • solid structures are solid all the way.
     • man made
   • Frame structure
     • A frame is made of parts fastened together.
   • shell structure
     • Shell have space in them and are most strong.
   • combination sturcture
     • They combine shell,frame and solid structures.

5. Types of forces

   • External
     • Forces come from outside. Eg. wind
     • Static load
       • The effect of gravity on a structure.
     • Dynamic load
       • Moving load acting on a structure.
   • Internal
     • One part of a structure acting on another. Eg.roof on a house
     • compression
       • force pressing on something
     • shear
       • force pushing in opposite direction
     • tension
       • force that stretches apart.
     • torsion
       • force that twists.
