3. Why the USA got involved

   • Germany
     • sank U Boats with 128 americans on them
     • broke sussex pledge
     • announced they would continue to use submarine warfare
     • Britan intercepted Zimmerman note from germany
       • Germany said they would give mexico texas if they helped germany with the war effort
         • this scared the united states
   • internal (USA)
     • 1/3 of americans were immigrants and still associated with native country
     • wilson & congress passed laws in preparation for war
     • disgusted by what happened when germany invaded belgium
