Types of Processing

1. Batch Processing

   • Used for lots of files
   • NO user input required
   • Used for files in similar form
   • Can be used when compiter isn't being used for anything else (at night)
   • Examples: Payroll, bank cheques and updating stock interface

2. Online Processing

   • When the user is directly interacting with the computer
   • Any system where the user is entering data directly into the computer must be an online system
   • If data is being entered and processed it is an online system
   • Examples: All booking systems and Computer games

3. Real-time processing

   • Used to process data immediately
   • Booking seats on a flight
     • Can't add to a pile because others might be booking the same seat
   • Examples: Monitoring systems, Payment systems (EPOS) and Computer games
