Multiplying Fractions
- cancel down by dividing the top and bottom by any common factor in either fraction
- now multiply the top and bottom numbers seperately
- find 8/15 x 5/12
- 8 and 12 both divide by 4
- 15 x 5 both divide by 5
- = 2/3 x 1/3 = 2x1/3x3 = 2/9
- 8 and 12 both divide by 4

- rewrite the mixed numbers as fractions
- Turn 7/2 upside down and multiply
- simplify by cancelling the 7s
- Turn 7/2 upside down and multiply
- 2 1/3 divided by 3 1/2
- = 7/3 divided by 7/2
- 7/3 x 2/7
- 1/3 x 2/1 = 2/3
- 7/3 x 2/7
- = 7/3 divided by 7/2
- rewrite the mixed numbers as fractions
Adding/ subracting Fractions
- make sure the denominators are the same
- add/ subtract the top lines only
- 11/5 + 3/2
- 11 + 3 = 14
- 7/14 = 1/2
- 5 + 2 = 7
- 11 + 3 = 14
- 11/5 - 3/2
- 22/10 - 15/10
- 22- 15/10
- 7/10
